How Chandelier and Pendant Size Is Calculated
Above Tables and Furniture
- When a chandelier or pendant hangs above a table or similar surface, the furniture usually becomes the main sizing reference.
- For round or symmetrical fixtures, a practical starting point is approximately 50–66.7% of the controlling furniture width.
- For linear fixtures and pendant compositions, the calculator uses the relevant furniture length while keeping the overall installation within the available surface.
Room-Centred Fixtures
- For a chandelier acting as a general room centrepiece, the calculator uses:
- (Room length + room width in metres) × 8.3 = approximate fixture size in centimetres
- For example, a 5 m × 4 m room gives a starting reference of approximately 74.7 cm.
Clusters and Double-Height Spaces
- Multiple pendants are evaluated as a complete composition rather than as isolated fixtures.
- For double-height spaces, horizontal proportion, fixture height and documented suspension information are considered where available. The calculator does not apply an arbitrary universal hanging-drop formula.

Use the Result as a Practical Starting Point
The calculator provides preliminary sizing guidance rather than a fixed design rule. Final fixture selection should also consider ceiling height, circulation, furniture placement, sightlines, fixture body height, suspension length and visual weight.
